Find a manufacturer who has an “Excess” supply of merchandise you might know something about. Maybe you have a fashion interest and would like to sell apparel? there are many manufacturers who have last seasons merchandise or just an “Overstock” of current items.
There is no end to the categories of merchandise you can distribute from household goods to home improvements items. The biggest part of sourcing items is research. Look through phone books of distant cities at your library, search the Internet for manufacturers and subscribe to category specific trade magazines to get a jump start. Once you find a manufacturer contact them and ask if there is a department or individual who is in charge of liquidating closeouts. This contact might just be the key to your future profits. Most of the time companies will have a listing of closeout merchandise that can either be faxed or emailed to you in the form of an excel spreadsheet. Do not be afraid to ask!
