Making Money by Going Direct!

This article was written with the intent to put you in contact with the direct source for closeout merchandise. You do not have to buy from a liquidator if you do not want to. If you want the lowest price…go direct!

If you want to get the real deal you have to put out some effort. You will have to call retailers, catalog companies and manufacturers and start getting the name and number of the person in charge of close-outs.

Ok, so lets research a company and get in contact with the liquidation departments. Lets start with at Newport-News, which is a large catalog company selling trendy women’s apparel. Newport News is owned by Speigel. The first thing you would want to do is go to the website and look for a “Contact Us” link which will give you a customer service phone number. Sometimes there will be a link to corporate information which is typically more helpful then the regular customer service line.

Once you have the phone number call and ask to be transferred to the closeout/Liquidation department. Explain that you are a volume buyer of closeouts and last seasons items. Beware….many of the representatives you talk with may or may not have a clue concerning what you are talking about. If this happens to be the case, politely ask for their direct supervisor and ask your question again. If you cannot get a direct phone number or name of who handles the liquidation merchandise ask if there is another department or representative that would have this information. Be persistent.

You need to know that you will get a different operator each time you call. I myself have had to make several calls in the past just to track down someones name and phone number from a single company.

When you finally get the contact information from the company give them a call and let them know you are interested in buying in volume. Most Catalog companies, large retailers and manufacturers will not sell in small lots. You will need to “Step Up” and make purchases ranging from $1,000 – $20,000 at a time.

I have used the above technique successfully to get in contact with some of this countries largest retailers. It works! Skip the middleman and go direct!
