Selling Closeouts & Customer Returns at Warehouse Sales
You have bought pallets of merchandise or maybe even a truckload of merchandise….how about organizing a one or two day “Warehouse Sale”? Known as an “Event Sale” customers will be lined up waiting for you to open your doors selling closeouts and customer returned merchandise well below retail pricing! I speak from experience. We organize 8-10 warehouse sales selling customer returned general merchandise including small appliances, home décor and domestics. We have put together sales and in one day can net thousands of dollars in sales!Once you have your merchandise place classified ads or maybe even insert a flyer into your local newspaper advertising your one-day sale. Explain in your add that merchandise will be able to be purchased below wholesale pricing. Stress that buyers should arrive early and bring a large vehicle to take home tremendous savings!
When we run our sales we have customers in line waiting for our doors to open. Once open for business there is usually a “Mad Dash” throughout our warehouse with customers trying to find bargains. When we started out we would purchase 4-5 pallets and from there worked our way up to 1-2 truckloads per sale! We would arrange our merchandise in aisles and simply placed merchandise on the floor. If you do not have a warehouse you could have your sale at home like a rummage/garage sale.
We made sure to properly advise all customers that they were apart of a liquidation sale and that all purchases were final and no refunds would be offered. Please pay careful attention to any selling restrictions placed on the pallets/truckloads you purchase. Some merchandise/loads you buy will have certain reselling restrictions. For example Sears and Kmart specify that reselling of their merchandise cannot be within a 50 mile radius of a Sears or Kmart store. No fear, just ask about reselling restrictions when you purchase your pallets and/or truckloads from your source.
Warehouse and Event sales can be very profitable and fun. Our clients have become addicted to visiting our warehouse for these retail days, in fact we are often asked to set up more sales per month by the public.
I offer consulting services for Warehouse and Event sales and would love to work with you setting up your sale. I can offer assistance sourcing merchandise, pricing, and advertising and general event considerations. Please feel free to Email for further details.
